ALD STUDIO

Aljoud Lootah Design Studio is a UAE-based studio that has gained international acclaim, particularly after their establishment in 2014. Since its foundation, the studio has preserved its unique approach by focusing on the idea of contrasts in form and function while distinctly interpreting the Emirati culture and artisanal techniques through contemporary design.

Aljoud Lootah’s creative drive comes from a passion for detail and experimental approaches to materials and aesthetics. Being in line with T.ZED Architects’ ethos and approach to design, it was the perfect appointment by the client to commission T.ZED Architects to design ALD’s new office space in Dubai Design District (d3).

Given the multifaceted nature of usage, the project is a complex one. At the same time, the space needed to communicate a level of refinement and sophistication through subtle detailing and materiality. ALD studio comprised of; a front of house exhibition space to display designed pieces, private office the opens up to a meeting room and the open-plan work stations. This allows for flexibility in use and caters to the ever-changing demands of a modern-day work environment.

At the heart of the space lays the workshop area, where models and prototypes are made and photographed. This collaborative space is one of engagement and acts as the central nucleus of the project. An extension of this area are the more ‘domestic’ programs such as the open pantry that continues the main materials of the office, and the softer, quieter prayer and meditation room that is also addressed as a ‘majlis’ for team members.
